BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Or at least 'Friendly of Britain'.

The powers that be have deemed it appropriate that Celtic's Annual London Friendly (TM) to be against those lovable money bags and English Champions, Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge. Pencilled in for Wednesday, 9th August.

Its likely to be a different experience than the rather friendlier proposals of a visit to Loftus Road or Craven Cottage, but never the less its sure to be a lively affair as usual.

As well as getting to see all of Gordon's latest signings - lets hope - its also a chance to hook up with your old friend Senhor Mourinho and his mega-bucks superstars. Who says money can't buy you trophies?

There's sure to be a good atmosphere and stay tuned for news on what the London No1 CSC has planned for the day.

Hail Hail,
Just wanted to say that i think its a shame that the london pre season match is only available to season ticket holders, plus its mid season so i doubt the big names will be playing!
give us back our day out by the river in the sun watching the mighty hoops !
ps what a great signing jarosik will be !!

Is it true that when Celtic buy a player they pay as little as possible but agree with the sellers that they'll play a lucrative friendly with them?Japan during the season?Chelsea kicking crew during the season?Poland as well, OK that's pre season, maybe it's just paranoia. The Board never ceases to astonish me.Bring back the old policy, buy 1 get 1 free, perhaps our next trip will be to Iceland.

Get into them...

Celtic, Celtic, Celtic...

OK I know that Naka came from Italy - Reggina but I wouldn't be surprised if Yokahama Marinos had some sort of marketing rights on the young Irish Japanese fella.Of course he's half Irish, with a name like Nakamura, sure didn't Celtic get rid of Jackie and thought we wouldn't notice if they stuck a similarly named player on the pitch???

Ahem

When is the next 5 a side tournament?I'd like to play, I'd also like to become a member so I'll print and complete the form and bring it along to the Tavern either for the Chelsea game or the KIlmarnock game.

travelling down 2 the game was wondering if u cud tell me of any gd pubs and hotels not 2 far from the bridge ?

Posted by: glasgow bhoy!at July 19, 2006 12:17 PM

@Damien Not heard of any spare tickets for the game as yet but it might be worth heading down to the Cock Tavern in the afternoon before the game.

The next five-a-side has yet to be organised. Good to know you're interested though, we'll see if we can get the other clubs in London to get together again.

There'll be someone at the club to recieve your membership form at the games.

@glasgow bhoy

Not sure whats down by Chelsea way pub wise but The Cock Tavern will be lively all day. There's quite a few B&B's around the Euston area too.

A good starting point is: http://www.londontoolkit.com/

We're near the train stations for Glasgow/Edinburgh here in Euston and about 45 minutes to Chelsea.

Re the Chelsea match : Forty f***ing quid for a meaningless friendly !? Jim Devine MP
(wearing his Celtic Trust hat) brought up an
Early Day Motion condemning this in the House of Commons. I'm just back from Scotland and I don't know anyone who's going. My question is: Why isn't London No.1
boycotting this fixture? As PT Barnum used
to say, there's one born every minute.

Personally, with a new flat and a kid on the way, this will be my only chance to see the Hoops this season:(

And a lot of London Tims don't get to see the Hoops live, so take any opportunity they can. No-one wants to go to Chelsea never mind pay £40.00!

Posted by: johnsat July 19, 2006 07:18 PM

I'll be down on the afternoon of the Chelsea game then Johns, cheers.Going to a match on the 9th of August makes a big change from we used to do back home on the same date.

For it's a grand old team...

PS, it'd be great if Charlie and the Bhoys could get a session in the tavern, I saw them up in the Brazen Head when I went up for a match in January - blooming marvellous!

Me again, this is magic.Anyone going to Las Celtic (formerly Las Vegas) next summer?I'll be there as last year was unbelievable; singing, drinking, dancing and laughing all day and I mean all day.Sure the Riviera was in such a state 1 night I thought it was All Souls Night, a person tends to have an aimless dead appearance at 4:00 a.m. after a heavy Celtic session.Celtic need to have a little bit more input though, there marketing still leaves a lot to be desired.

Did you know, there is a Partick Thistle Las Vegas team?A bloke that works as a croupier out there, really sound bloke, can't recall his name though, it will come to me...

The Thistle fella got a bunch of us to play his team, I played right full back and sure big Tom Boyd was centre half!We won!

Willie Maley was his name...

Will the london NO.1 be running transport to the game lads ???

hh brian

Posted by: Brianat August5, 2006 09:16 AM

No transport I'm afraid. We're the wrong side of London, getting across town is easier by tube rather than bus during rush hour.

I'll post up some links for getting to Stamford Bridge.

Posted by: symptomlessat August7, 2006 01:28 PM
